JOB SUMMARY
The MRI technologist will work with the radiologist and fellow staff members to prepare patients and operate magnetic resonance equipment in order to obtain diagnostic scans. The MRI technologist works under general supervision in performing a variety of exams and procedures according to departmental protocol, as requested by physician order. The technologist will position the patient's body part for imaging and set appropriate technical factors on the imaging equipment with a high degree of competency to ensure production of quality images for interpretation by the radiologist.
Patient Care:
Ensures patient safety and comfort while in the radiology department.
  • Explains the procedure and post-procedure orders to the patient to gain cooperation and minimize anxiety.
  • Prioritizes workflow in regard to patient condition and ensures patients' arrival and departure occur in a timely manner.
  • Provides an atmosphere conducive to gain the patient's cooperation and confidence.
  • Utilizes data received from patient satisfaction and practice performance results to identify opportunities to improve and participates in the planning and improvement process.

Compliance:
Follows and supports OSHA regulations and uses universal precautions when required.
  • Cleans examination surfaces between patients.
  • Provides clean linen including sheets, gowns, pillowcases, and towels.
  • Immediately cleans spills following universal precautions.
  • Properly stores accessory equipment when not in use.

Teamwork:
Works within a team to achieve patient and team goals.
  • Shares and initiates regular and professional communication with co-workers.
  • Facilitates and participates in regular staff meetings.

Technical Competency:
Follows routine standards and properly and safely manipulates equipment, within its limitations, to obtain images.
  • Maintains sterile equipment and fields.
  • Adjusts cameras to obtain the proper density and contrast.
  • Performs any necessary warm-up and quality control procedures on the equipment.
  • Uses protocols to obtain images of internal structures.
  • Critiques images for quality and makes necessary judgments to determine if repeat is necessary.

The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
High School Diploma or GED required. Graduate of an accredited school for Magnetic Resonance Imaging.

Experience:
2 years of healthcare experience preferred. Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for additional details.
Licensure:
ARRT or ARMRIT Registered in MRI, or eligible. Registry must be completed within 12 months of hire.
Additional Skills/Requirements Required:
Demonstrates proficiency in verbal and written communications. Ability to work in a stressful environment. Ability to multitask and proficient in MRI safety.

The job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently traveling and reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive). Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills. Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
