24 an hour Position Summary The City of Manassas Police Department is seeking a candidate to facilitate police and community relations with residents and businesses, educating the community on crime prevention issues such as workplace violence, personal safety, self-defense, identity theft awareness, child safety programs, crimes involving the elderly, and Neighborhood Watch.
The successful incumbent selected for this role will be able to disseminate public information as one of the department's public information officers.
Employees will also be responsible for attending public information-related seminars/meetings, conducting on-camera interviews, monitoring social media platforms, and disseminating press releases, wanted subject bulletins, and crime alerts.
The hiring range for this position is $27.
81-$38.
24 per hour, DOQ.

Essential Job Functions Performs the functions of a public information officer (PIO) for the police department; writes press releases, crime alerts, wanted bulletins and other informational communications; responds to media outlets via phone and email; coordinates, maintains, and utilizes the police department's accounts on various social media platforms; serves as the on-call public information officer as required.
Provides the public with answers to community services and crime prevention questions; provides crime statistics, gives seminars, meetings, training, and is involved with anything requiring interaction with residents of Manassas pertaining to community services and crime prevention.
Attends evening and weekend community events.
Coordinates a variety of City-wide crime prevention events; acquires event funding; coordinates with internal and external agencies on event planning; and markets events to ensure public participation.
Provides seminars to the general public and City partners on various crime prevention topics including workplace violence, personal safety, driver safety, self-defense, identity theft awareness, child safety programs, identifying suspicious activity, and crimes involving the elderly.

Minimum Required Qualifications Bachelor's Degree or currently enrolled in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Communications, Business, or closely related fields is required; supplemented by three (3) years experience in crime prevention or experience as a law enforcement officer; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities for this position.
Must possess and maintain a valid Virginia driver's license.
May be required to obtain DCJS certification as a crime prevention specialist through regional or state training.

Knowledge of video editing software Adobe Premiere Pro or Apple Final Cut Pro or similar programs Knowledge of Canva or similar graphic design tools for social media posts Special Requirements Must be able to pass a background investigation and polygraph, along with a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.
