Utilizing an Integrated Pest Management approach, Mosquito & Forest Pest Management works to minimize mosquito-transmitted diseases, tree defoliation, and tree mortality through surveillance, pest population reduction, and public outreach and education.
The Field Biologist will perform field work in support of managing mosquito, spongy moth, fall cankerworm, and other forest pest populations by performing by surveillance and suppression activities of these pests.
In addition, this position will perform a variety of other duties to include public education and outreach, equipment maintenance, inventory, and pest identification.
Work will be performed primarily in the field throughout the year.

ABOUT THIS ROLE:
This position directly implements mosquito and forest pest surveillance and suppression activities by conducting field surveys and pesticide applications, source reduction, and/or habitat manipulation.
It also directly supports public education and outreach efforts by attending events, neighborhood canvassing, and assisting in developing alternative outreach media and digital content.
The position will also support maintaining the Branch equipment, product inventories, and ensure adherence to strict Integrated Pest Management procedures.

PREFERENCES:

Experience:
Conducting fieldwork in a variety of environments Applying pesticides with common application equipment Providing education, outreach, and customer service to a wide diversity of stakeholders Identification of arthropod and tree species Maintenance and inventory of assigned equipment and products.
SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS:
This position is scheduled Monday through Friday for 37.
5 hours per week.
Some overtime will be required on nights and weekends.
The selected candidate will work out of the Mosquito and Forest Pest Management Building located just south of Manassas, VA in Prince William County.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess a valid VA driver's license & pass DMV record check.
The selected candidate will be a Virginia Certified Pesticide Applicator or obtain a certification within 1 year of hire.
This position may be filled as an underfill at the Environmental Technician (B21) level.
ENTRY SALARY RANGE (B21):
$20.
62 - $31.
38 HOURLY ENTRY SALARY RANGE (B23):
$24.
